DIY Home Security Tips

Use only solid metal or wood doors

Burglars find it rather easy to break through doors made from plywood or stained wood. Therefore, you should enhance your house security by installing doors made from metal or solid wood in any way entrances.

Use metal bar on sliding doors

Do not leave sliding doors (or even windows) unprotected. Install metal bars behind them, since this will prevent thieves from gaining entrance after smashing the glass.

Install deadbolt locks

Though they're more expensive than spring latch locks, deadbolt locks are much stronger and therefore provide additional protection. So, you should include at least one-inch thick deadbolt locks to all outside doors in your home. But when installing deadbolt locks, make sure that thers little or no space between the doors and their frames, as such spaces make it easy for intruders to induce the door apart. To reduce the space, use metal or plywood sheets to fortify the doorway.

Screen lawn signs

Although yard signs may not stop desperate burglars from entering your home, they can discourage intruders since they pass the message that you have a functional alarm system and also that intruders are monitored. Upon seeing yard signs, most thieves will think twice before entering your house because they will see that they might be captured.
